Albir

Albir beach
Albir, just north of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca, is a quiet resort favoured by families and couples. Surrounded by low hills, Albir lies around a wide bay. The beach, Playa de Raco de l’Albir, is mostly composed of pebbles and holds Blue Flag status. A boulevard, “Promenade de las Estrellas” runs along the length of the beach and has many bars and cafes. The beach offers safe bathing for children and less confident swimmers and in the summer season lifeguards are always present. A variety of water sports is available from the beach. These include windsurfing, waterskiing, banana boating and doughnut rides. The beach also has two children’s playgrounds.
The village centre and the seafront have many cafes and restaurants serving a variety of food including British fare. There are shops for essential provisions as well as a multitude of gift and souvenir shops.
There is no shortage of things to see and do in and around Albir. You’ll find Spanish culture, beautiful scenery, lively bars, great food, balmy breezes and safe, clean beaches. If you want more than just lazy days on the beach or around the apartment pool, there are plenty more active things to do to get that adrenilin rush!
All in all it’s the perfect choice for your holiday or extended break and has everything you would expect from a resort in this part of Spain. Here is a quick tour of what we think makes Albir special.
A rich history right on the doorstep

Beach promenade
Albir is the beach resort of the old town of Alfaz del Pi, which was originally an inland, fortified, village providing shelter from the Berber pirates. The name Alfaz was Moorish and means “sown land” – the traditional economy is linked to the land – the growing of fruits, vines and almonds but tourism is now the town’s main source of income.
Albir, originally a small fishing village is located 2 kilometres away from Alfaz, next to the Sierra Helada. It has long been embraced by Spanish city dwellers as well as foreign visitors and long-stay residents.

Balmy breezes
The climate in the northen part of the Costa Blanca is regarded as the best in Europe with over 320 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 22-24 degrees. Most of the beaches along the Costa Blanca have the “European blue flag”, which means that the water quality as well as the cleanliness of the beaches and other facilities is of the highest order. As well as the high influx of annual visitors many people choose to live here for health reasons. The mild winters especially, with an average temperature of around 18 degrees, help the elderly and people with rheumatic conditions to feel better while during the summer, there are usually balmy sea-breezes to take the sting away from even the hottest days and nights.
The famous Salt lakes situated at nearby Santa Pola and Torrevieja are said to be a factor contributing to the stable weather in this region. These are among the largest in the whole of Europe and salt is the Costa Blanca’s largest export trade with large ships from most of the world coming to Torrevieja port to load this salt which is then exported to Canada and Scandinavia to keep the roads clear. Only in Spain could you have a commodity which is of absolutely no local use at all!!
Our apartment is in a quiet block with delightful Mediterranean gardens and swimming pool which has all day sun as well as cool shaded areas under the olive trees.
